Rescue of Maria Callas tapes

In June 2018, the United Music Foundation restored and preserved, in Geneva, four Maria Callas audio tapes which had been severely damaged in a flood.

These tapes from the collection of the Fonds de Dotation Maria Callas in Paris contain recordings of operas such as Aïda, Il Trovatore, Lucia di Lamermoor, Medea and La Traviata, as well as a recital with tenor Beniamino Gigli.

These recordings, produced between 1951 and 1957, were preserved in high resolution (24bits / 96kHz).

This rescue project was made possible thanks to the support of Mr Tom Volf.
